What this policy covers

Filamental ("we", "us", or "our") is a desktop application that you download and run locally on your computer. This Privacy Policy explains how we handle information when you use Filamental.

Our core commitment: We designed Filamental to respect your privacy and data sovereignty. We do not want your data, we cannot see your files, and we have no interest in monetising your information.

Information we do not collect

Filamental does not collect, store, or transmit:

• Your flowchart designs, notes, or any content you create
• Your file names, folder structures, or file contents
• Your usage patterns within the app (keystrokes, features used, time spent, and so on)
• Screenshots, recordings, or any media from your computer
• Any personal documents, browsing history, or system information beyond what is listed below

We have no cloud storage, no analytics SDKs, no advertising trackers, and no telemetry. Your work stays on your computer, under your control.

Information we do collect (very limited)

1. License validation data (required for subscriptions)

To ensure that your subscription is active and to prevent unauthorised use, Filamental periodically connects to Creem's license validation servers (typically once every 7 days). When it does so, the following information is transmitted:

• Your license key (a unique identifier for your purchase)
• A randomly generated installation ID (created when you first install the app)
• The current timestamp of the validation request

No design files, no personal content, and no identifiable user information (like your name or email) are transmitted, unless the license key itself is considered personally identifiable, which it generally is not.

This validation data is processed by Creem's servers (not by us directly) to confirm that your subscription is paid and active. We may access aggregated logs (for example, the number of active licenses) but we do not routinely review individual validation records.

If your subscription is terminated for any reason, Creem will retain validation records for up to 12 months for fraud prevention, after which they are deleted.

2. Payment and transaction information

When you purchase a subscription, you are redirected to our payment processor. They collect information necessary to process your payment, which may include:

• Your name
• Your email address
• Your billing address
• Payment method details (credit card, PayPal, and so on)

We do not receive or store your full payment details. The payment processor shares with us only your email address and a license key (and, if applicable, your name) to enable us to provide support and manage your license.

3. Information you voluntarily provide to us

If you contact us for support (via email, our website contact form, or other means), we will receive whatever information you choose to provide, such as:

• Your email address
• Your name (if you provide it)
• Any screenshots, descriptions, or files you attach to help us resolve your issue

We keep these communications private and only use them to assist you. We do not add you to any marketing lists unless you explicitly opt in.

4. In-app notifications (optional)

Filamental may occasionally display in-app notifications (for example, about updates, new features, or important announcements). These notifications are generated locally and do not require any data to be sent to us. You can interact with them, dismiss them or disable them.

Cookies and tracking on this website

This website sets no cookies of its own, and there is nothing on it for you to consent to.

There is no analytics, no advertising, no tracking pixels, no session recording and no third-party embeds. The web fonts are served from our own domain rather than a font service, so loading a page does not tell anyone else that you visited. That is also why you will not see a cookie banner here: a banner exists to collect consent for non-essential cookies, and we do not set any.

The site is hosted on Cloudflare Pages. Like any host, Cloudflare processes the technical information needed to deliver a page — your IP address, the page you asked for, and your browser's user agent — and may set a strictly necessary security cookie to tell real visitors apart from automated traffic. That processing is for delivery and security only. We receive no analytics or visitor reports from it, and it does not let us identify you.

If you follow a link from here to somewhere else, such as our payment processor or the download host, that site's own privacy policy applies once you arrive.

How we use your information

We use the limited information described above only for the following purposes:

• To validate your active subscription (license validation)
• To process your purchase and provide you with a license key (via Creem)
• To respond to your support requests
• To send you important service-related communications (for example, security notices or major version changes), only if you have provided your email address

We do not use your information for:

• Marketing, advertising, or promotional emails (unless you have separately opted in, which we do not currently offer)
• Selling, renting, or trading to third parties
• Training AI or machine learning models of any kind
• Analytics, user profiling, or behaviour tracking
• Any purpose not explicitly listed above

Sharing your information

We share your information only in these limited circumstances:

• Creem — payment processing, license validation and subscription management. Shared: license key, installation ID, timestamp, and email address for the purchase.
• Legal authorities — as required by law.
• Service providers (future) — if we engage a third party to provide email or support services, which we currently do not. Only as necessary, and with contractual privacy protections.

We do not share your information with any advertisers, data brokers, analytics providers, or other third parties for their own purposes.

Where your information is stored

• Your designs and files remain on your own computer. We never have access to them.
• License validation data is processed and stored by Creem on their servers (likely in the EU). See Creem's privacy policy for details.
• Payment and transaction information is stored by Creem. We do not store it.
• Support communications are stored in our email system (we use a standard email provider) or ClickUp EU servers. If you are in the UK or EEA, note that email providers may store data on servers outside your jurisdiction when you send an email.

We do not operate our own servers for storing user data. All third-party processing is done under commercial agreements.

Data retention

• License validation logs: Creem retains validation records for as long as your subscription is active, plus up to 12 months for fraud prevention after account closure.
• Support emails: we retain support correspondence for as long as needed to resolve your issue, and typically delete it within 12 months after the last communication.
• Payment records: Creem maintains transaction records for accounting and legal compliance purposes (usually 6 to 7 years).

If you wish to have your email address removed from our support records sooner, please contact us.

Your rights

Depending on your location (particularly if you are in the UK, European Economic Area, or certain US states), you may have rights under data protection laws including:

• The right to access the personal information we hold about you
• The right to rectification (correct inaccurate information)
• The right to erasure (request deletion of your information)
• The right to restrict or object to processing
• The right to data portability
• The right to withdraw consent, where we rely on consent. We do not currently rely on consent for any processing.

To exercise these rights, contact us. Since we hold minimal data about you (typically just your email address if you contacted support or purchased a license), we can respond quickly, usually within 30 days.

If you are not satisfied with our response, you have the right to lodge a complaint with your local data protection authority.

Children's privacy

Filamental is not directed at children under the age of 13 (or the minimum legal age in your country to provide consent for data processing). We do not knowingly collect personal information from children. If we learn that we have inadvertently received information from a child, we will delete it promptly.

Filamental for Android

The Android app is a viewer for documents someone has shared with you, and nothing more. There is no account and no sign-in. When you open a share link, the app fetches the encrypted document from our servers and decrypts it on your device using a key carried in the link itself, which is never sent to us. We cannot read what you open, exactly as we cannot read your files on the desktop. The app keeps a short list of recently opened links on your device only, which you can clear at any time, and it keeps no copy of the documents themselves. There is no analytics, no tracking, no advertising and no telemetry of any kind. As with any website, our servers record the standard request information needed to deliver a file, and a link that has been revoked or has expired simply stops working.

Changes to this Privacy Policy

We may update this policy from time to time to reflect changes in our practices or for legal reasons. The latest version will always be available on our website. If we make material changes, we will post a notice on our website and/or social channels.

The effective date at the top of this policy indicates when it was last revised.

Legal basis for processing (UK and EEA users)

Under UK and EU data protection law (UK GDPR and EU GDPR), we process your information on the following bases:

We do not rely on consent for any processing because we collect so little data. Where we do seek consent (for example, for optional marketing emails, which we do not currently send), you may withdraw consent at any time.
