Changelog

Small releases, often, and written down

Filamental ships when something is ready rather than on a calendar, which in practice has meant a release every few days. The most recent releases are listed here, newest first.

Before you scroll

You are probably already on the latest one

The application checks for new versions itself and updates in place on Windows, macOS and Linux. There is nothing to subscribe to, no separate updater, and no release you have to go and fetch by hand. If you installed through the Microsoft Store or a package manager, that channel updates you instead and can sit a version behind for a day or two.

The current release is v0.4.0, from 4 October 2026. Earlier releases stay on GitHub Releases, with every build attached.

Every release

What changed, and when

v0.4.0

Current
  • New / Open / Import is one window to start a project: blank, from a template, from a Mermaid diagram, from a folder you already have, or from an Obsidian vault
  • Build a project from a folder of documents, or from one document, with your own AI connection. Markdown, text, Word and PDF files are read, and the originals are never changed
  • Add a folder or a document to the project you have open, as a separate structure in a folder of its own
  • An import that stops carries on from where it left off the next time the project opens
  • Sub-folders can become classifications when you open a folder or import an Obsidian vault, PDFs and images included
  • Classify notes by folder, in the + menu, does the same for a project you already have
  • Pathfinder: select two nodes and press R to light the shortest route between them
  • Export for AI saves a Markdown file of your project that opens with a summary of how it is structured
  • The assistant connects to Ollama or LM Studio running on your own computer
  • The assistant, in the app and over MCP, can find how any two nodes connect and give a short overview of a whole project
  • A project inside another project appears there as a folder bridge
  • Editing a note keeps the front matter other apps add to it, such as Obsidian tags and aliases
  • Report a bug from the new button beside Filamental AI, at the top right. It opens an email to us

v0.3.50

  • Settings is reorganised into General, Appearance, Fonts, Graph, Background, Controls, AI, Account and About, opening on General
  • Every setting has a plain name and a line describing what it does, in all eight languages
  • Sliders in Settings show their value, and every on or off setting uses the same switch
  • The shortcut reference is translated, in Settings and in its pop-out window
  • Page style, on the Publisher’s top bar, holds the font, text size, page width and palette in one window with a live preview
  • Drag the Page style window aside and keep working on the page while your changes appear on it
  • Text size is Small, Medium or Large, and headings, the page title and spacing grow and shrink with it
  • Page width is Narrow, Standard or Wide
  • The palette is set out as Backdrop, Title & subtitle and Paper around the page, then Headings and Body text on it
  • Formatting selected text is done from the toolbar that appears over your selection
  • Gradient headings now run across the words on shared and downloaded pages
  • Share asks one thing first, a live link or an HTML file, then shows only the options for that choice
  • Reduce file size, for an HTML file, leaves out the graph background and page covers and keeps every picture on your pages
  • Windows across the app share one layout, with clearer names, spacing and buttons
  • Arrow keys move the cursor in text fields inside windows
  • New help pages: Working with Obsidian, and the Obsidian plugin

v0.3.49

  • The welcome tour now covers both studios. It walks the space, opens the Publisher for the page toolbar, sharing and Present, then returns and finishes on Dark Energy
  • Tour steps that ask you to press a control now let you press it
  • Back in the tour now returns to the previous step you saw, in either studio
  • Choosing the Publisher Studio during the tour no longer blocks the home page picker. The tour steps aside while you choose and returns to the same step
  • The tour cards have room in them. Larger headings, larger writing and more space around both, so a step reads as something worth stopping on rather than a tooltip

v0.3.48

  • Highlight a classification or connector type, press Dark Energy, and that selection is laid out first and held still while the rest of your structure arranges around it
  • Highlighting now dims everything else instead of hiding it, so the shape around your selection stays visible
  • Highlighting a connector type keeps the nodes at both ends lit. Highlighting a classification lights its nodes and dims every connector
  • Node cards, distant markers, connectors and arrowheads now dim by the same amount at the same moment

v0.3.47

  • Branches leaving a node sort themselves by classification, so each colour sits together on one side. Branch Grouping, in Physics, takes it from off to firmly sorted
  • Layered structures sit closer together and use the full width of each layer
  • Re-laying out a structure now finds an arrangement with fewer crossing connectors

v0.3.46

  • Properties are defined once for the whole structure, in the sidebar beside your note and connector types, and every one you define appears on every node ready to fill in
  • Twelve property kinds: Text, Number, Yes / No, Date, Choice, Tags, Link, Email, Phone, ratings out of three or five, and Key. Choice and Tags take their values from a list you curate
  • Key is for values you copy rather than read. Hidden until you reveal it, one click copies it, and left out of search
  • Key values are marked with an eye and a line through it, never a padlock. Nothing in your files is encrypted
  • Ratings are written into the file as "4/5" rather than "4", so the number still means something to anyone reading the file later, yourself included
  • Your existing structures are untouched. Every value stays exactly where it was and still reads the same by hand

v0.3.45

  • Present, next to Share in the Publishing Studio top bar, fills the screen with your structure and turns it slowly, with no panels and no toolbars. Escape leaves
  • A row of controls along the bottom of Present sets the speed of the turn and how close the camera sits, shows or hides the colour key, and gets you out
  • Present shows whatever the canvas was showing when you pressed it, at the same size, so you frame it yourself. The zoom steps are reversible
  • Every link you publish and every file you export from this version carries the same button, so whoever you send it to can put it on a screen without installing anything

v0.3.44

  • You pick your AI provider from a list. If a provider turns your key down you get that provider’s own words for why
  • Venice AI is a provider you can bring your own key to
  • The "Don’t see your provider" button opens your mail app
  • The spin button is called Spin UFO, in all eight languages. Its tooltip was the last place still calling it a drone, while Help has always called it Spin (UFO) and the 360 view

v0.3.43

  • Removing a share link and sharing again gives you a new address. Anything already out there keeps working until you revoke it
  • Adding a folder somebody sent you to your shortcuts is no longer refused
  • The Help Playground is no longer capped at twenty nodes
  • A shortcut pointing at a folder that has moved now shows a warning
  • VS Code and Copilot have their own MCP setup snippets, along with a portable version you can commit to a repository. The client list gains VS Code and LM Studio
  • Ctrl+S, Ctrl+Shift+S, Ctrl+B and Ctrl+F have gone from the shortcut list
